Cityheart Launches New Placemaking Campaign Ahead of Next Phase of Royal George Village Development
To mark the next phase of development at Royal George Village, Cityheart has appointed creative partner Sheila Bird Studios to deliver a new placemaking campaign in Stockport: If The Hat Fits.
Shot by local photographer Madeline Penfold and with a subtle nod towards Stockport’s history in hat making the campaign celebrates the strong sense of local pride and the optimism in the town’s bright future following a recent influx of investment.
Commenting on the campaign, which has been shot over the last weeks in locations across the town centre, Jon Humphreys of Sheila Bird Studios said: “If The Hat Fits celebrates the hard working people of Stockport for playing their part in delivering the incredible changes we’ve seen in recent years. From local artists to business owners to people in hospitality and community support roles, they are all shown doffing their hats in the campaign which puts the life and soul of local people at the heart of Stockport’s renaissance.”
He continues: “The pride and energy that people have for their community always inspires us and nowhere is that more evident than here in Stockport right now. This campaign salutes the people that make the place what it is. Could Stockport be the new Berlin? Well, if the hat fits…”
Cityheart acquired the 442-home Royal George Village site on Greek Street last year and made an immediate start on site of the same day the purchase completed, continuing its commitment to Stockport town centre following the recent launch of its residential scheme at Stockport Interchange.
Royal George Village is the largest purpose-built apartment development in Stockport with a development value of £120 million. The first apartments are due for completion in Spring 2026.
Jonny Wrigley Group Chief Executive of Cityheart said: “It is people that make places really successful not bricks and mortar. People have unlimited passion for their neighbourhoods and community and nowhere is that passion stronger than here in Stockport. At Cityheart we consult across our local communities to make sure our plans support that passion and Sheila Bird’s campaign celebrates a real cross section of the spirited community that makes Stockport such a special place.”
The placemaking campaign will create a gallery around the perimeter of the Royal George Village site and will feature in an exhibition at Stockport Art Gallery in July when the new branding and further information about Royal George Village will be revealed.
